Hi there, Evolution Gemstones community! I'm Liz Evans, one half of The Evans Family Fossickers, and today, I want to share with you the heartwarming story of how Steve proposed to me, finally making my dream come true.
It all started with a particular sapphire that had stolen my heart from Steve's private collection. The gem was a stunning blue beauty, discovered by Steve himself on Tomahawk Creek in Central Queensland back in the year 2000. It was an 11-carat rough stone, which was skillfully cut into a gorgeous rectangular emerald shape. I affectionately called it "the swimming pool" due to its facets resembling steps leading down to a magnificent pool of sapphire blue.
Over the years, I couldn't help but drop hints about how amazing the sapphire would look in an engagement ring. However, Steve always playfully dismissed the idea, insisting that I needed a classic diamond ring. Little did I know that he was secretly planning to surprise me with something even more special.
As time went on, I patiently waited for that magical moment, but as more weddings and babies filled our friends' lives, I couldn't help but wonder if our turn would ever come. Steve's work had him away for two months, and the anticipation of his return was immense.
The day arrived when Steve was due to return home. I was working in a laboratory at the time when he called to check what time I'd be back. He seemed unusually anxious to see me, which piqued my curiosity.
Late in the evening, I finally returned home to find Steve eagerly waiting for me on the balcony of our rented unit. Little did I know that the surprise he had planned would soon change our lives forever.
Upon opening the door, I was greeted by a floor adorned with rose petals leading me further inside. My eyes caught sight of a special bottle of wine, but I still hadn't put the pieces together. As I followed the trail of roses through our hallway, I discovered Steve at the end of the path, down on one knee, holding a small velvet box.
At that moment, my heart skipped a beat, and I was filled with a mix of joy and disbelief. It's hard to believe, but I still hadn't realized that Steve was about to propose! 😅
In my excitement, my first question to him was about whether he had found a magnificent sapphire during his trip to the Gemfields. Little did I know that the answer to my question lay in the velvet box he held in his hand.
To my delight, the box revealed my beloved "swimming pool" sapphire, set in the most exquisite engagement ring. The sight of it took my breath away, and when Steve asked me to marry him, my tears of joy gave him the answer he hoped for – an emotional and resounding "yes!"
That night, we embraced the beginning of our beautiful journey together, and in 2013, we sealed our love with a wedding in the picturesque Gold Coast hinterland.
Looking back on that momentous day, I can't help but marvel at how Steve knew exactly what would make my heart sing. It wasn't just the stunning sapphire that made the proposal magical; it was the love and thoughtfulness behind it all that made it truly unforgettable.
Now, every time I glance at my engagement ring, I'm reminded of that night, and the gemstone serves as a symbol of the incredible love we share. Thank you, Steve, for making my dreams come true and for being the love of my life.
I hope this heartwarming tale brings a smile to your faces and reminds you of the power of love and the beauty of gemstones. Until next time, happy fossicking!
With love, Liz
